Assistant Professor of Physiology Konstantinos Palikaras receives the Cells 2023 Young Investigatior Award.

The “Cells Young Investigator Award” is a prestigious distinction award by the eminent journal Cells, renowned for its contributions to the fields of cell biology, molecular biology, and biophysics. This award recognizes the innovative work of a young investigator who has demonstrated remarkable promise and excellence in research. Recipients of this award are selected based on their scholarly achievements, including significant contributions to their field, within ten years of receiving their PhD.

Dr. Konstantinos Palikaras is the winner of the Cells 2023 Young Investigator Award. Dr. Palikaras, an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physiology, Medical School at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, was selected to receive the award for his seminal research achievements, relevant to mitochondrial homeostasis, neurodegeneration, and ageing. For his scientific accomplishments, Konstantinos Palikaras has received several notable scientific prizes including ERC (European Research Council) Starting Grant, the “Fotis Kafatos” Award for excellence in biology from Hellenic Society of Bioscientists, a Fondation Santé Biomedical Research grant, the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) grant for youg investigators, the AXA Research Fund, the Bodossaki Foundation EMBO (European Molecular Biology Organization) short-term and FEBS (Federation of European Biochemical Societies) short-τerm Post-doctoral fellowships, the DeLill Nasser Award for Professional Development in Genetics form Genetic Society of America and the Manasaki Doctoral Fellowship from the University of Crete.
